Dec 14, 2020 · Never hone a camshaft bearing. If you need more clearance polish the cam down but do NOT use a belt polisher. It will dub the corners off and it is possible to lose as much as 10% of the journal surface. Use a piece of abrasive cloth bent over the end of a file or flat wide tool bit. The clearance will vary with the type of engine use.
